My Practice
Mission, Philosophy & Style
My mission is to find the root cause of disease and dysfunction and to work with my patients to regain their health and vibrancy so they can be their best in the world!
I value a collaborating relationship with my patients, serving as their guide while encouraging them to take a significant role in optimizing their health. I look beyond symptomatic relief and search for the root cause of disease, dysfunction and poor health. I take time to sit with my patients and talk in depth about their lifestyle, environment, mind, body and spiritual connection and take them all into consideration.
I utilize my advanced education with the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M) to help find where imbalances may be and help patients to restore those imbalances. I use traditional labs as well as functional assessments and special testing to get to the root of the dysfunction.
Many patients find success in my treatments because I can use conventional medications when appropriate, but I mostly work on education of lifestyle, diet, nutraceutical supplementation, detoxification modalities, IV chelation and nutrient replacement, just to name a few modalities.
Background
I cherish my relationship with my patients and together we find success because of our relationship and the knowledge I have in advanced healthcare.
I am a Family Nurse Practitioner, having earned my undergraduate nursing at the University of Iowa and my masters in Science at Regis University in Denver, Colorado in 2006. I have been in the Fellowship Program with the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (now Metabolic Medical Institute) since 2008 and continue my education with them year after year. I believe in continuing education as the evolution of medicine is ever changing, challenging and exciting.

What is Functional Medicine?
Functional Medicine addresses the underlying causes of disease, using a systems-oriented approach and engaging both patient and practitioner in a therapeutic partnership. By shifting the traditional disease-centered focus of medical practice to a more patient-centered approach, Functional Medicine addresses the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms.
The Seven basic principles are underlying Functional Medicine:
-
Science-based medicine that connects the emerging research base to clinical practice.
-
Biochemical individuality based on genetic and environmental uniqueness
-
Patient-centered care rather than disease-focused treatment
-
Dynamic balance of internal and external factors that affect total functioning
-
Web-like interconnections among the body’s physiological processes also affect every aspect of functionality
-
Health as a positive vitality, not merely the absence of disease
-
Promotion of organ reserve as a means to enhance the health span

Testimonials
“I am tired of sterilized Western medicine which has little or no respect for the body, soul, spirit link. Carrie both understands and respects this truth.”

"I call Carrie my miracle worker. When I recently tested positive for the Epstein-Barr virus, she recommended IV Nutrient Therapy treatments with Jessica. I was hesitant at first as I’ve never been a huge fan of needles or IV’s. Jessica instantly put me at ease. She’s a fantastic nurse! To my surprise, the IV treatment was a very relaxing experience. I didn’t expect to see immediate results, but I can happily say that after only one treatment, I felt like a new person and was able to resume my normal activities. All of the symptoms that I had been struggling with for weeks had vanished!

"After visiting doctors for symptoms of menopause I felt I was making no progress. After reading and hearing about hormone replacement therapy (HRT) I made my first appointment with Carrie Spann Ballas. Now, 1 1/2 years later I look back and realize it was the beginning of a new life! Not only is Carrie knowledgeable and dedicated, she is also caring and compassionate. Talking with Carrie is like talking to a close friend or a family member. Now menopause is no longer a nightmare for me. I highly recommend HRT for both females and males.”"

For the past two years, I have been a patient of Carrie's. She has helped me make so many positive changes to my life! In addition to intigrative medical decisions, she has introduced me to the Prolon Fasting program. This easy to follow 5 day kit has really helped me gain momentum as I strive for a healthier lifestyle. The box comes with everything you need (except for the stove to cook the soups with). I am about to begin my eighth round and have been so pleased with how much better I feel after every box. I sleep better, have more energy and just in a better mood all around. My skin and hair are back to a more youthful state and I have been able to keep off extra weight that I was putting on before adding Prolon to my healthy changes. The program is 5 days at a time and since it is so easy to follow, I give it five shiny stars!

"In January of this year, at the urging of my sister, I started under the care of Carrie Ballas. My sister had been under her care for about a year and I had seen such a remarkable recovery from her health issues that I wanted the same thing for me.
I had been dealing with numerous health issues due to an episode of hyperthyroidism. The thyroid had since been stabilized but I was still battling several other symptoms and still not feeling very good yet. I wasn’t sleeping well, had bouts of some types of some auto-immune responses just to name a few and just felt bad.
On my first visit, she just LISTENED. She did ask questions, but for the most part she just LISTENED. After that visit, she sent me to do a blood test that took 23 vials of blood. Believe it or not, I was good with that. I knew that she was getting a complete picture of what was going on with my body.
The tests came back and showed that I needed help in several areas. Carrie gave me my marching orders along with vitamins and hormones. After three months, I could truly say I was feeling like myself again but something was still off. She mentioned that one of my test results my be indicating that I have heavy metals in my system. With that, I took the test for heavy metals and sure enough I had five times the amount of lead and mercury in my system that I should have.
I have been on a heavy metal chelating regimen for almost three months and I am finally feeling normal again. Thank God and Thank Carrie!
I had been to numerous other doctors to try and figure out what was going on. All I received was a prescription and a “pat on the head”. Carrie started taking care of my whole body, not just the symptoms and that was the key.
I highly recommend Carrie Ballas to anyone who is looking for a compassionate, caring, and intelligent professional who breaks the common mode of medicine given these days. She has helped both my sister and me regain our health. Both of us will continue to see Carrie for our health needs. Why? Because we TRUST her."
