My Practice
Mission. Philosophy. Style.
As a Family Nurse Practitioner my mission is to find the root cause of disease and dysfunction, and to work with my patients to regain their health and vibrancy so they can feel their best in the world!

I value a collaborating relationship with my patients, serving as their guide while encouraging them to take a significant role in optimizing their health. I look beyond symptomatic relief and search for the root cause of disease, dysfunction and poor health. I sit and listen to my patients, talking in-depth about their lifestyle, environment, mind, body and spiritual connection--all is taken into consideration when designing their healthcare needs.

I utilize my advanced education with the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M) to help find where imbalances may be, and help patients to restore those imbalances. Traditional labs, as well as functional assessments and special testing, is used to get to the root of the dysfunction.

Many patients find success in my treatments because I can use conventional medications when appropriate, but I mostly work on education of lifestyle, diet, nutraceutical supplementation, detoxification modalities, IV chelation and nutrient replacement, just to name a few modalities.
Background
I cherish my relationships with patients, and together we achieve wellness success through my knowledge in advanced healthcare. I earned my undergraduate nursing degree (BSN) at the University of Iowa, followed by Masters in Science (MS) at Regis University in Denver, Colorado in 2006. I have been in the Fellowship Program with the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (now Metabolic Medical Institute) since 2008, and continue education with them year after year. I believe in continuing education as the evolution of medicine is ever changing, challenging and exciting.

What is Functional Medicine?
Functional Medicine addresses the underlying causes of disease by using a systems-oriented approach that engages both patient and practitioner in a therapeutic partnership. By shifting the traditional disease-centered focus of medical practice to a more patient-centered approach, Functional Medicine addresses the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms.

The Seven basic underlying principles of Functional Medicine:
-
Science-based medicine that connects the emerging research base to clinical practice.
-
Biochemical individuality based on genetic and environmental uniqueness.
-
Patient-centered care rather than disease-focused treatment.
-
Dynamic balance of internal and external factors that affect total functioning.
-
Web-like interconnections among the body’s physiological processes also affect every aspect of functionality.
-
Health as a positive vitality, not merely the absence of disease.
-
Promotion of organ reserve as a means to enhance the health span.
